I’m Knitting a jumper. Actually, I’m re-knitting a jumper.
It used to look like this……..
…..a rather wobbly, baggy attempt at a semi fitted ribbed jumper! The neckline always iritated me slightly and I was constantly pulling it down off my neck! I’ll be re-shaping that for a start.
I knitted this about five years ago without a pattern, or very much skill! I winged it, you could say. The results were not great, but the jumper fitted. Sort of. So I wore it for a few years, quite proud of my achievement (and even knitting another…..which has now also inevitably ended up in the re-knit que!).
So the needles are out (my favoutrite – Cubics by knit pro)….
……..and a (slightly wobbly) swatch is emerging……
……..I’m not the neatest knitter, but I’m quite happy with this!
I’m planning to follow a brilliant how-to guide by Fringe Assosiation
I found this on Pinterest and am now an avid follower of her blog – it’s wonderful and you can learn so much from this lady!
Not so long ago I knitted my first top-down jumper following a pattern by Jane Richmond – another of my knitting heros. Here it is…..
It’s the Oatmeal Pullover and was so simple and joyful to knit that I was converted to top down knitting forever! I love the way you can try it on as you go.
I also knitted the Solstice cardigan by Quince & co…..you can see it on my Ravelry page here (for some reason I can’t find the original pics on my mac but if I do, I’ll amend this post and pop them on in place of the link)
This was also a top down knit and I love this pattern too. You can tailor your jumper a bit more to your fit when you knit top down, and I think it gives you a little more insight into how a knitted jumper is constructed. I also loved learning how to do raglan increases with these two knits, and I now feel confident to have a go at my own guided pattern with the help of Fringe Assosiation! So here we go! I’m busy knitting swatches so I can work out my cast-on.
I’ll post some more details and some better pictures soon (the weather and daylight has been un-kind lately!) but in the meantime, I’ll be a good knitter and get my samples done AND block them. Oh yes, this jumper is going to have every chance possible of actually fitting me! Hopefully.
I had some very ecxiting new yesterday about my ‘Little E’s sunshine Blanket’ …..I’ll share this in my next post, as the weather has made it impossible to take any decent photos lately and I’d like to show it off properly before it goes to Little E!!
And just before I go……did you notice……..I have changed the look of the blog slightly? I’m trying out a new theme from those available on WordPress – just to see if I like it better! We’ll see! I quite like the simplicity of it…… what do you think?
